A Day At Manifest

image

Strolling through the isles of one of my favorite places in Columbia, SC right now. So much history in this store…plenty of memories. Just picked up the latest from Likwuid Styles and Bun B. I decided to get the Big Boi album another time. The machine already claimed Sounds Familiar as a victim and we can’t let Manifest become another statistic with all the small chain record stores closing. Support your favorite artist as well as your favorite record stores.

GIRLS ROCK TOO: August Feature-Shilo

Shilo

The 5$BILL has set an initiative to make the stages of hip hop an equal playing field. With that theme in mind, each month we will feature snippets of interviews from the ladies of ‘Tha Bill. This month, we have two women MaryLiz the Princess and Shilo. The 5$BILL caught up with Shilo earlier this week to see how she was preparing for her 5$BILL debut this Friday at The Loft in Columbia…

LIKWUID (5$BILL): When did you first pick up your instrument?

SHILO: I used to play piano when I was 6…and eventually that stopped. But I have always had an interest in guitars, so I’m about to get into that, as well as taking up the piano again.

LIKWUID (5$BILL): What makes your sound unique?

SHILO: I am lyrical. Unlike most females, I sing, rap, and write. I only sound like ShiLo’ and I’m only compared to the greatest.

LIKWUID (5$BILL): How did you come up with your name?

SHILO: My Aunt May gave me the name ShiLo’ and it stuck….thanks Aunt May

LIKWUID (5$BILL): What are some tips and practices that you use before your get on stage to perform?

SHILO: Breathing, telling jokes, I also do a little dance before I go on stage. *laughs*

LIKWUID (5$BILL): Name your TOP 5! (Artist, records, books, etc…anything that will let me know a little bit about u.)

SHILO: Outkast, Jay-Z, Erykah Badu, Kanye West, and Jill Scott

Catch Shilo this Friday, August 27 at The 5$BILL at The Loft. 9pm. Don’t forget, Girls Rock Too….

It’s soul…hip hop…blues…and funk all blended into one: DayClean. This video is so elegant…

More on DayClean…
DayClean is a duo out of Columbia, South Carolina, that is comprised of guitarist singer/songwriter Marcus Thomas and cellist Idris Chandler. While our style is a great mixture of sounds, we attribute it to the moods and melodies of Soul, Hip Hop, Folk, and Blues. We find ourselves constantly influenced by Bill Withers, Arrested Development, Tracy Chapman, Yo-Yo Ma, Ben Harper, Al Green, The Fugees, and other unnamed talents that have inspired us to create what we have.
